Cobden church gifts gardens $1000
CAMPERDOWN’S Botanic Garden and Arboretum will be able to continue to improve for visitors thanks to a donation from the Cobden Uniting Church Op Shop.
Camperdown Botanic Gardens and Arboretum Trust treasurer Garry Moorfield said the group was thrilled to receive the donation
“Most of our work in the gardens is funded by contributions from members and friends,” he said.
“Trust volunteers are continually encouraged by people who truly appreciate the gardens and the arboretum, and connection to nature and plants.
“The generous donation from the Cobden Uniting Church Op Shop will help us to continue to improve the gardens for the benefit of our local community and visitors to our shire.”
The recent donation was presented to the trust by Cobden Uniting Church Reverend Ross Stanford and op shop joint business manager Barbara Cowley, who said the decision to donate came from Rev Stanford’s love of walking the Camperdown Botanic Gardens.
“One day he began talking to Janet O’Hehir (trust secretary and honorary curator) about the gardens because they are beautiful up there and she indicated that they needed to buy tools and plants, but they didn’t have much income,” she said.
“They rely on their members and a few donations here and there.
“Ross suggested that our op shop might be able to help so it was brought up at one of our monthly church council meetings.
“We all decided that it was a good idea.
“We have a lot of customers that come in from Camperdown, so we were pleased to be able to help them out.”
