COBDEN export Sam Walsh has finished third in Carlton Football Club’s prestigious John Nicholls Medal.

The best and fairest vote count, held last Friday night, saw the 22-year-old finish just 18 points behind eventual winner, Carlton captain, Patrick Cripps.

Cripps went into the count a clear favourite, having taken home this season’s Brownlow Medal.

Cripps polled 181 votes last Friday night, narrowly ahead of runner-up Sam Docherty on 173, with Walsh third on 163.

The thrilling vote count was a fitting end to the 2022 season for the Blues, who finished ninth on the AFL ladder at the conclusion of the home and away season.

Walsh’s third place was indicative of what was another great season for the midfielder who, to date, has played 81 games for the Blues since his debut in round one of 2019.
