Time to move on: After six years as 1st Cobden Scout group leader John Wason is preparing to step down from the role.

Now might just be the perfect opportunity with 1st Cobden Scout group leader John Wason retiring at the end of June.

“I just feel like I’ve achieved as much as I can and I feel like it’s time for someone else to take over,” he said.

“I’ve been group leader for the last six years; but I’ve been involved with scouting for about 13 years.”

Mr Wason encouraged interested residents to put their hand up for the role, and said a prior involvement in scouting was not necessary.

“It’s more of a management role; you’re taking care of the leaders of the groups,” he said.

“A lot of the work is done at home; you just check in with the leaders a few times each term.

“There’s a lot of paperwork to be done in the background. You’re also the first point of contact for new members.”

Mr Wason said he had enjoyed the role and full training was provided.

“You get all the skills you need to do it,” he said.

“It’s fun; it’s so nice to see new members progress and how much they change and become leaders.

“It feels good to know you have helped those kids become young adults.”
