Cobden’s Biggest Morning Tea

COBDEN held its annual Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for the Cancer Council at the Heytesbury House on Thursday, June 18, with a flowing crowd of people coming through to mark the occasion.

Co-organiser Jenny Bongers said it was great to see the community come together for such a wonderful cause.

“This is about the 25th year or more that I’ve hosted the Biggest Morning Tea and then Kathryn Stubbings kindly offered to have it at the Heytesbury House,” she said.

“We originally did it at the National Bank until it closed but we’ve continued doing it.

“The local community has been wonderful, they always donate things.

“Lactalis donated butter, the bakery does beautiful scones for us, everyone’s just so good.

“Local businesses donated things for the raffle.”

Progressing Cobden’s Visitor Information Centre supported Mrs Bongers in hosting the Biggest Morning Tea, which raised over $2600 for the Cancer Council.

Progressing Cobden secretary Kathryn Stubbings said the event was a lovely occasion which brought the community together.

“We had a wonderful painting donated by Debbie Banks for our silent raffle,” she said.

“We had donations from Kooler Dairy of milk and cream and Ritchies IGA who donated goods for the day.

“This year we did the memory tree which was where people wrote little messages in honour of those fighting or battling cancer and they’re absolutely beautiful.

“We had about 50 people who came.

“There was lots of laughter and sharing and wonderful support for a very worthy cause.”
