The match was played under lights using an orange ball.

“The orange ball was a point of difference and it was exciting to play under lights” Cobden’s Ingrid Bellman said.

“It was really good to get that win in our first game back from the Christmas break.”

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Knights posted 9/116 from their 25 overs.

Rachel O’Keeffe was pivotal in Cobden score making a career best 47 not out from 43 balls with three boundaries.

“Rachel worked into her innings so well, she played with a steady, level head.

“She was pretty happy getting her highest score, everyone batted well around her.”

The Knights expected to have a tough challenge in the run chase.

“North Warrnambool had a lot of their young top order coming straight off under 18 country week.

“We knew we’d have our work cut out.”

It was the early wickets to Anna Dickson that put the Knights on top.

“We brought Anna on as a bit of a change, she just put it on the spot and made those breakthroughs for us.”

Regular wickets fell, with Jacque Dickson and Sally Merrett taking two wickets each.

“Jacque’s a part time bowler if you ask her” Bellman laughed.

“She’s more than that, she’s super reliable and bowls a great length.”

Merrett also drew praise from Bellman.

“Sally keeps it simple, just a few steps to the crease, she offers a change of pace and puts it on the spot.

“We’re lucky to have a number of reliable bowlers, it gives us depth to put pressure on the opposition.”

North Warrnambool were dismissed in the final over for 86.

The win keeps Cobden entrenched in the top six in fifth position.

This week Cobden’s women have another Friday night match, this time against Mortlake at Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval.

“Another game on turf this week is fantastic as all our finals are on turf.

“We’re sitting in a good spot and hopefully can keep some momentum going.”
