TERANG College students did their school proud last week, achieving some excellent results in both the Hampden School Sport Secondary Division (HSSSD) and the Corangamite District School Sports Association (CDSSA) athletics carnivals.

The HSSSD meet took place on Tuesday, March 29, and Terang students competed against their peers from Mercy Regional College, Timboon College, Camperdown College and Cobden Tech.

Twenty-six of the college’s 37 athletes achieved podium finishes in their events, but only the winner of each will progress to the Greater Western Victoria regional finals in Ballarat in October.

Terang College secondary girls who earned qualifications to the regionals were Jess Bell (1500m), Tayla Bell (triple jump), Mia Dickson (long jump), Elizabeth Flavell (shot put), Emily Fuge (javelin), and Emma Hill (javelin, discus).

Terang boys who progressed were Declan Barbary (javelin, high jump, triple jump), Ben Carlin (1500m) and Nick Castersen (discus), Oliver Delaney (shot put), Bailey Dennis (javelin), Harrison Hunter (shot put, discus), Tayte McMaster (high jump) and Sema Meric (shot put).

Terang College sent 30 students to the CDSSA carnival at Frederick St Oval in Camperdown on Friday, April 1, and once more the college’s athletes shone.

Terang College finished fourth overall among the eight schools, and among another swag of medal placings Chloe Clifford (discus, shot put), Zoe Hill (800m, discus, shot put) and Elise Wood (1500m) won their events to qualify for the division athletics.
