College marks NAIDOC Week
CAMPERDOWN College students marked the conclusion of their NAIDOC Week activities with a smoking ceremony this week.
Students from both campuses gathered at the senior campus on Wilson Street on Monday for a ceremony led by Eastern Maar nation man Joey Chatfield.
Marrung co-ordinator Alice Adams said the smoking ceremony was also part of the school’s NAIDOC Week activities.
“Joey began the ceremony by discussing the significance of NAIDOC Week and traditional music followed,” she said.
“Joey and his son played the didgeridoo and clapping sticks whilst members of the college community walked through the cleansing smoke.
“The event was a meaningful end to the week’s celebrations, fostering cultural understanding and unity within the school community.”
