Colour Terang Festival 2025 cancelled

THE Colour Terang Festival has been cancelled for 2025, with fears Gala Night could also be called off if the committee behind both events cannot secure new members.

Two of Terang’s most popular community events are under threat as the organising body behind the events, the Terang Progress Association, has struggled to secure active members.

Both events have proven wildly popular since returning after COVID-19-related cancellations, with thousands flocking to Terang each year to enjoy a free day of family-friendly fun, but the success of both events has also created workload challenges for the small committee.

Western District Newspapers understands the committee is down to just seven active members, but would need to at least double in size to ensure its line-up of events remains viable.

Terang Progress Association president Ken McSween said the decision to postpone the Colour Terang Festival for 2025 was a difficult one to make.

“We regret to inform the community that the Colour Terang Festival will be postponed for this year,” he said.

“Unfortunately, a lack of active members available to help organise the event, combined with uncertainty surrounding the Hampden League Grand Final being scheduled for the same day, has made it unfeasible to proceed as planned.”

Mr McSween said he feared Gala Night would share the same fate if the committee could not secure additional members to assist with planning and running the event.

“Additionally, Gala Night is also at risk of cancellation unless we are able to secure support and assistance with running the event,” he said.

“We deeply appreciate the community’s enthusiasm and support in past years, and we hope to bring these events back even stronger in the future.”

Mr McSween encouraged anyone interested in supporting the future of both events to inquire with the Terang Progress Association.

He said many hands make light work, and felt a robust committee would be vital in ensuring the popular events could continue well in to the future.

“If you are interested in getting involved or volunteering, please don’t hesitate to reach out,” he said.

“Thank you for your understanding.”
