Comedy coming to Lismore for first time

LISMORE will be hosting a night of laughter next Thursday for its inaugural comedy night at the Lismore Hotel.

Australian comedian Dave O’Neil, who has been in the comedy industry for over 30 years, will be headlining the event.

Joining Mr O’Neil will be rising star Billy Stiles and UK-born comedian Kelsey De Almeida.

StellaVision’s Stella Kinsella – who will MC the night under stage name Ms Stella – said the first show in what is hoped to be a regular event will begin at 8pm next Thursday (December 18).

“I’ve been operating StellaVision for nearly 30 years in various forms, and I have been running, promoting and curating live comedy with fantastic headline acts and upcoming rising star support acts as well,” she said.

“The hotel proprietor, who came to an event of mine in Newport in Melbourne – a Dave Hughes show – approached me to start up some comedy nights at the Lismore Hotel.

“There are constantly great acts operating in Melbourne, but my business model is to bring great shows to communities that can’t necessarily travel.

“The south west is a huge farming community, and they’re not really able to travel to far.

“The idea is to bring these acts to local communities and offer locals the opportunity to drive less to have a great night out.”

Ms Kinsella said, should the first night go well, the comedy night will be held bi-monthly.

“The hotel is hoping to continue to feature a comedy night every four to six weeks, which means brilliant comics will be travelling down to the Camperdown area and giving an opportunity for locals to experience something they would otherwise have to travel a couple of hours for,” she said.

“These nights are not just about having a good laugh – they’re about building a better community.”
