Commercial Hotel prepares for fringe festival
THE Commercial Hotel is set to be a hive of activity from next week with eight fringe events scheduled as part of the 2022 Warrnambool Storytelling Festival.

THE Commercial Hotel is set to be a hive of activity from next week with eight fringe events scheduled as part of the 2022 Warrnambool Storytelling Festival.
The Storytelling Festival is set for a bumper year with the incorporation of a range of events in Terang, which has seen the program double its program from previous years.
For six months Commercial Hotel proprietor Les Cameron has supported community groups and highly skilled outsiders to create artistic projects, with an aim to add to the cultural life of south
west Victoria.
These activities are now set to bring an economic boost to the area, with Terang on the cusp of two weeks of artistic shows and endeavours as part of the festival.
“We are delighted to be part of the 2022 Warrnambool and fringe Storytelling Festival,” Terang Theatre Troupe (TTT) member Janet Cronin said.
“We’re particularly proud eight of our local programs have been listed across the next fortnight”.
Thirty artists from around the area and Melbourne will be performing across the fortnight, with activities to include music and theatrical activities, and fresh opportunities for writers and poets to strut their stuff.
Events in the 2022 Warrnambool Storytelling Festival line up to be featured at the Commercial Hotel include:
• Wimmen Wild, June 21 from 7pm;
• The Cooinda Drama Troupe, June 22 from 10.30am;
• Keyhole Kaberet Around the World, June 26 from 1.30pm;
• Peter Daffy and Jim Williams’ ‘Telling our lives in verse and song’, June 28 from 7pm;
• Writers’ celebration, June 29 from 7pm;
• Serendipity – or just luck?, June 30 from 8pm;
• Poets’ corner, July 1 from 3-5pm; and
• Twelfth of love – Shakespeare Alive – July 1 from 8pm.
Ms Cronin said she was particularly excited to see the TTT’s contributions, with a number of programs scheduled including the diverse talents of Cooinda participants when the Cooinda Drama Troupe takes to the stage.
She also highlighted the night of song-writing and stories coming from local icons, Peter Daffy and Jim Williams, who will perform biographical storytelling through song.
The creative cohort at the Commercial Hotel will also help to headline two of its newer guests.
Jonathan ‘Jay’ Tindall, a street artist, will perform at the Old Terang Courthouse, opposite the Commercial Hotel, tonight for a 6pm opening and show 10 of his pieces for the first time.
“Hearing Jay speak about his unique methods of work and seeing the results will be both a challenging and fascinating opportunity, we believe,” TTT member Anne Corbin said.
Laura Flanagan, a fiddler, musical academic and community performer visiting Terang from Texas on a two-month fellowship, will also discuss her goals for her stay and describe her performances while in Australia.
