DERRINALLUM residents will be seeing more colour and crafts in town after a new community art hub was opened at the start of the month.
Officially opened on Saturday, November 4, ‘Creative Hub @ 31’ will provide a space for artists to display and sell their works.
The new hub was a result of the lease for 31 Main Street, Derrinallum, which used to be the Child and Baby Health Centre, being awarded to Creative Craters at the July council meeting.
Coorangamite shire councilor Nick Cole said at the time of the base the expression of interest was a “good example of a small town having a go”.
With the lease discussions recently finished, the opening day was held and invited the community to purchase and investigate art by local artists.
Creative Creators member Janine Davis said the group was off and running after managing a few sales on the day.
“We are trying to be open from Tuesday to Saturday, and we will be open on market days and long weekends,” she said.
“Hopefully the community will engage with us; that’s all we hope.
“We can only be here, and hopefully they can take advantage of it and come and check out he facility.
“Maybe we’re going to do some workshops and things like that; only sharing knowledge.”
Creative Hub @ 31 will be open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 3pm.
