Concern raised for dangerous roadside vegetation
THE slashing of roadside vegetation along Cobden-Terang Road is set to begin this week, but concern has been raised with how overgrown the vegetation becomes before action is taken.

A member of the community contacted Western District Newspapers to raise their concerns surrounding the safety of the road and its maintenance.
They said they travel Cobden-Terang Road each day for work and feared the length of the grass on the side of the road made vehicles susceptible to collisions with kangaroos or wandering livestock.
A Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) spokesperson said Cobden-Terang Road is inspected each fortnight to perform routine roadside maintenance as required.
Western District Newspapers understands DTP works alongside Corangamite Shire Council and emergency services to plan its mowing and vegetation management programs.
“We regularly inspect our road network, including Cobden-Terang Road, for potential hazards,” the spokesperson said.
“Our next mowing program is planned to start this week, subject to weather conditions, and will include Cobden-Terang Road.
“DTP is responsible for maintaining approximately 22,000 kilometres of freeways and arterial roads across Victoria, including more than 19,000 kilometres in regional and rural parts of the state.
“Our crews mow, slash, and spray around 45,000 kilometres of roadside grass and weeds each year.”
Western District Newspapers understands work which will have the greatest impact on public safety is prioritised, and public reports are regularly assessed.
Road users and members of the community who have concerns are encouraged to report any concerns about the road network to DTP on 13 11 70.
