Confidence booster for Bulls
POMBORNEIT’S division one team has had its best win of the 2024/25 season so far with a 38-run win over Heytesbury/Princetown at MCP Oval on Saturday.

Batting first, the Bulls slumped to 3/25 before a series of middle order partnerships saw the home team post a competitive 180.
Lahiru Fernando scored his first half century of the season with 58 from 74 balls.
Other strong contributions came from Josh Place with 30, Tom Darcy with 26 and Tharaka Sendanayake with 24.
The visitors moved to 1/93 in reply before Tharaka Sendanayake took two quick wickets to turn the game, the second a very sharp caught and bowled from competition leading run scorer Matthew Love.
The Bulls then continued to take regular wickets, ultimately bowling the Storm out for 142 in the 47th over.
Sendanayake was superb, conceding just 14 runs from 10 overs to go along with his two wickets.
Lahiru Fernando took 3/30 to round out a great all-round game, with Clinton Place and Brad Hillman taking two wickets each.
Boorcan won the toss and batted first in the division two game at South Purrumbete.
Pomborneit restricted the visitors to 8/157 from their 40 overs; Charlie Voutier with three wickets and Sam Whytcross with two the pick of the bowlers.
In reply, Pomborneit had little trouble chasing down the Boorcan score.
Skipper Matt Richardson was run out for 25 from 18 balls (the only wicket), Charlie Voutierwas unbeaten on 63 and Luke Reynolds with 66 not out, passing the total in the 28th over.
Pomborneit’s division three team recorded a 34-run win over Cobden at Cobden Tech, Stephen Walters top scoring with 95 not out from 105 balls in the Bulls’ total of 8/238.
Tim Whitehead was the pick of the Bulls bowlers with 3/25 from eight overs in the home team’s reply of 9/204, while junior player Miller Murphy took a wicket on his senior debut.
The Pomborneit Gold women had a comprehensive win over competition newcomers West Warrion at MCP Oval on Sunday.
Gold piled on 0/226 from their 20 overs with Tayla Reynolds, Samantha Coxon, Jessica Moulden, Nellie Sadler and Jada Mahony all reaching the 30 run retirement mark.
West Warrion proved hard to dismiss but could only score 19 runs for the loss of four wickets, with Jess Moulden taking two wickets.
The Pomborneit Maroon women put up a very competitive effort against Bookaar at Frederick St, going down by 27 runs.
The home team made 7/104 batting first, teenagers Isabella Wain (3/18 from four overs) and Charlotte Richardson (2/7 from four) the best of the bowlers.
Co-captain Janelle Whitehead top scored with a run a ball 18 in Maroon’s reply of 6/77.
In junior cricket, the Pomborneit Gold under 17 girls had the bye, while the Pomborneit Maroon under 17 girls had an 8 run loss at Frederick Street.
Isla Spokes hit 27 not out from 30 balls in Maroon’s total of 4/77, the home team replying with 6/85, Lilli Saarikallio with 2/12 from four overs and Charlotte Richardson with 2/11 from three overs the best of the bowlers.
Pomborneit’s under 17 boys had a 156 run win over City United at the Eastern Reserve on Tuesday night.
Batting first the junior Bulls made 5/196 from their 30 overs, Gavin Reynolds with 43 retired from 30 balls and Jonty Raven with 26 retired from 21 balls the best of the batsmen.
Pomborneit dismissed the home team in just 16.2 overs for 40, Gavin Reynolds (2/3 from two overs), Max Rees (2/5 from three overs) and Fletcher Tolland (2/6 from three) the pick of the bowlers.
Pomborneit’s under 16 boys finished runner-up in the Twenty20 tournament in Timboon on Sunday.
George Sadler, with a 53 retired, led the junior Bulls to 3/114 in the first game against Cobden.
The Knights replied with 7/76, Josh Reynolds with 3/11 and Dermot Conheady with 2/4 the leading bowlers.
In the final, Pomborneit posted 6/102 batting first, Jonty Raven with 42 from 44 balls and Josh Reynolds with 33 from 37 balls the best of the batters.
Bookaar passed the Bulls score in the final over with four balls remaining in a hard fought, entertaining game of cricket.
Pomborneit’s under 14 boys team had a 47 run win at Birregurra.
Top scorers in Pomborneit’s 5/139 were Bailey Fox with 29 retired and Ollie Rahles-Rahbula with 20 retired.
A strong team bowling effort saw the home team restricted to 8/92 in reply.
In under 13 boys cricket, Pomborneit had a 19 run win at Simpson last Friday night.
Top scorers in the Bulls’ 6/85 were Noah Boyd with 20 retired and Bailey Fox with 19, Crawford Dunn taking two wickets in the home team’s 7/66.
Pomborneit’s under 13 girls had a 12 run win at Irrewillipe on Sunday.
Tomahawk Creek posted 2/85 batting first with a wicket each to Zoe Unwin and Emily Reynolds.
Pomborneit replied with 3/97, Pippa Murphy with 9, Scarlett Whitehead with 8 and Emily Reynolds and Zoe Unwin with 7 each the top scorers.
