A FIVE-point win over Ararat has given Woorndoo Mortlake a confidence boost in the run home to finals.
The Tigers, now sitting in third two games clear of Ararat in fourth – and just a game behind ladder leaders Wickliffe Lake Bolac and second-placed Tatyoon – performed well in the wintry conditions last Saturday.
The visitors got out to an early lead in the opening term at Alexandra Oval, finishing the term 20 points ahead, however the Eagles got within 14 by the half-time break.
An even third quarter saw both sides add three goals to the board, with a similar result in the final term.
The Tigers’ opening quarter effort proved the winning factor with the visitors taking the win by just under a goal.
Final scores were Woorndoo Mortlake 9.6.60 defeated Ararat 8.7.55.
Best for the Tigers were Damien Pemberton, William Paulin, Jesse Horan, Matthew Pemberton, Jesse Johnson and William Templeton.
Matthew Pemberton kicked three for the Tigers while Jesse Horan and Damien Pemberton both added two goals each.
Earlier in the day, the Tigers’ reserve side had a tough ‘top of the table’ clash with Ararat and finished 22-points short of victory, kicking just 1.3.9 to 5.1.31.
Tyne Anderson was the Tigers only goal scorer while Andrew Hearne, Xavier Glossop, Nathan Doonan, Tom Carmichael, Issac Fowler and Mitch Walsh were named in the best.
There were mixed results on the netball courts for the Tigers.
Results were as follows:
A grade – Ararat defeated Woorndoo Mortlake 39-35. Best for the Tigers: Nicole Anderson and Ashlea Spokes.
B grade – Ararat defeated Woorndoo Mortlake 37-22. Best players: Tasha Killen and Brooke Eldridge.
C grade – Woorndoo Mortlake drew with Ararat 21-all. Best for the Tigers: Sara Kosch.
18 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Ararat 56-18. Best player: Lucy Carmody.
15 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Ararat 47-4. Best: Ava Wardlaw and Parker Hamilton.
13 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Ararat 38-2. Best players: Layla Wardlaw and Billie Carmody.
Round 12 this weekend will see the Tigers at home to SMW Rovers.
