Connect over the region’s iconic landmarks
CORANGAMITE Shire residents can connect with others, stay active and feel part of their community thanks to a new series of social events.

Council’s accessibility and inclusion team has launched ‘Explore and Talk’, a new series of tours around local landmarks.
Deputy mayor councillor Laurie Hickey said the relaxed get-togethers would be a fun way for people to meet other fantastic residents.
“You could make a new best friend so come along and add some excitement to your day,” he said.
“Stick around after each tour and enjoy a friendly chat at a nearby café.
“Explore and Talk offers a gentle way to enjoy our fabulous outdoors, learn a bit more about our shire’s big backyard and get some light exercise at your own pace.
“It’s a simple idea, but we know that sometimes the smallest steps can make a big difference to someone’s day.”
Over the coming months, council staff will welcome participants at well-known landmarks across the shire before guiding them on a planned route.
Along the way, participants will discover interesting stories about the area’s history, environment and community.
Cr Hickey said the walks are open to everyone and are designed to strengthen community connections.
Most routes are on paved surfaces for accessibility and the presence of two staff members means the group can separate to adapt to different abilities.
Support animals are also welcome.
“It’s about making social connection easy, enjoyable and accessible for all,” Cr Hickey said.
“Community members are warmly invited to bring a friend, neighbour or family member who might appreciate some company.
“Please call the positive ageing, access and inclusion team on 5593 7100 to book.”
Upcoming walks will be held on Wednesday, March 11 at Skipton – meeting at the Jubilee Park Lake car park at 10am.
Cobden will be next on Wednesday, April 15 – meeting at the Tandarook Botanic gardens entrance at 10am.
Timboon will follow on Wednesday, May 13 from 10am at the Timboon Railway Shed Distillery.
Then on Wednesday, June 17, it will be Noorat’s turn with participants meeting at The Shed café at 10am.
