Connection for a cause
ENSURING residents aren’t isolated from the wider community is at the heart of Aberlea’s operations, but doing so this week also helped to raise $460 for a great cause.

Aberlea’s Mortlake residents hosted a Biggest Morning Tea celebration on Tuesday, opening the doors to visitors who enjoyed coffee, sweets and great company.
The event also raised an impressive $459.45 to support the efforts of Cancer Council.
Aberlea hospitality services manager Katie Barker said it was wonderful to see so many members of the community in attendance, sitting side by side with residents to enjoy the occasion.
“We just thought we’d do a bit of a community event to involve people coming in and the residents,” she said.
“Our main goal was to get people in, it’s not only good for our residents but it’s also good for the community.
“In addition, we also get to raise money for Cancer Council.
“It ticks all the boxes because we like having the community come in because it’s hard for the residence – the more they come in, the better.”
Ms Barker said the strong showing from the community helped Aberlea in its goals to not only fundraiser for its own needs, but to also include fundraising initiatives for other causes which make a positive difference to the lives of others.
“We’re really happy with the turnout,” she said.
“It’s been really well supported, which is just fabulous.
“We want a fundraise not only for us but for other things as well.”
