Connection through sport and comedy

RESIDENTS are invited to enjoy a night out and gain an insight into professional football through a Sportsman’s Night next month.

The Lismore Derrinallum Football Netball Club will be hosting the night for the third time on Saturday, August 16 at the Lismore Community Centre in Seymour Street, Lismore.

Event organiser Darcie Seers said the 18 plus event will see professional football players Kevin Sheedy and Isaac Smith as guest speakers.

“They come and chat about their history in football – especially Kevin Sheedy with his role as a coach,” she said.

“Isaac Smith will be talking about his football journey – in and out of football.

“We’ve also branched out a little bit and we’ll have the Nelson Teins, who are comedians as well to get a few different people to come to the night.

“They will be doing a bit of a comedy act for something different this year.”

Ms Seers said the event was a way to reengage people with grassroots football.

“Since COVID, a lot of people have stepped away from playing a lot of country football, so it’s to get a bit more interest in football,” she said.

“It’s also to promote supporting the community and getting everyone together for a great night to support our local football club and a night of socialising and fun for everyone.

“We really want to promote this as a way to support our local football and netball club and to get people from all over the district to come and have a great night.

“We want to get people from all areas together for a bit of fun and enjoyment.”

Doors will open from 6.30pm with memorabilia on display alongside an auction, raffles and door prizes.

Entry is $80 per person – which includes finger food – and drinks will be at bar prices.
