Constable boots eight to lead Demons

AN eight goal haul to spearhead Lachie Constable has led Lismore/Derrinallum to a strong win over finals contender Caramut in round 11 of the Mininera and District senior football competition.

The Demons led at every change in wet conditions on their way to a 10.17.77 to 1.8.14 win at the Caramut Recreation Reserve.

“We were pleased to go in to the quarter time break with a two goal lead after kicking into what was a three to four goal breeze in the first term,” Lismore/Derrinallum coach Alec Wiltshire said.

“The heavens then opened up and we played in torrential rain for the next three quarters.

“It was pleasing we could then make the most of our opportunities and score a really good win.”

Wiltshire said a strong week of preparation contributed to the win.

“There’s been a bit of hype around Caramut and justifiably so, there’s a bit of unknown about them so we could really only control what we could control.

“We had a pretty good week on the track and carried that into Saturday which was really pleasing to see.”

Constable was named best after bagging eight of the Demons’ 10 goals.

“Lachie was very impressive in those conditions; the ball was like a piece of soap and got heavier and heavier.

“It was nice for him to hit the scoreboard, he’s probably played more of a team role in the past few weeks, but everyone likes a goal kicker and he was fantastic.”

Playing just his third game for the season, Zack Mongelli was second best for Lismore/Derrinallum.

“Zack’s had a tough year, he put in an unbelievable pre-season and then in our first practice match back in March did a hamstring, and he’s done it two or three times.

"He’s courageous, he’s got no fear, so just throws himself at the footy a lot of the times, and you close your eyes and just hope for the best; he would’ve intercepted six or seven balls and made it hard for Caramut to enter their forward 50.”

Blake Scott, Henry Walsh, Noah McIntosh and Marshall Browne were also in the best in the win for the Demons.

This week the undefeated Demons head to Moyston to take on the winless Moyston/Willaura team.

“We’ve got five games until finals so our focus is to just push each other to keep improving every week and focus on what we can control.”
