Corangamite Hockey encourages checking in

RESIDENTS are being encouraged to come together this Sunday with the Corangamite Hockey Club hosting a special lunch to raise awareness as their season closes.

The club will be hosting an R U OK? Day event at the Camperdown Guides Hall from 12.30-2.30pm on Sunday, September 14 in addition to their end of season celebrations.

R U OK? Day is held on the second Thursday of September – this year falling on September 11 (yesterday) – as part of the R U OK? organisation’s work to encourage connection and having conversations during difficult times.

Corangamite Hockey Club’s Megan Lucas said Corangamite Shire Council encouraged the club to apply for a Ready Now Grant to promote the cause.

“It’s really just about connection and keeping that – it’s our end of season, and sport is quite an important part of people’s worlds and having that connection to people,” she said.

“We hope to encourage connecting with your peers and players and families all celebrating together.

“Our end of season hockey event will be celebrating our teams who have been playing in Warrnambool this season, so it’ll be a barbecue lunch for hockey members and we’ll have some coffee and R U OK? Day cupcakes to promote that connection and conversation.”
