Corella damage no match for volunteers
A GREAT example of the term ‘Many hands make light work’ was on display in Mortlake recently as volunteers helped get Wilson’s DC Farran Oval ready for game day.
The oval had sustained widespread damage in recent months due to flocks of Corellas digging around in search of food.
As a result of the damage the committee had to bring forward around $17,000 in works to ensure the field was brought up to scratch.
While the damage could have jeopardised the quality and safety of play, swift repair works were completed thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers who were all too happy to roll up their sleeves.
“A lot of the credit goes to the Mortlake Cricket Club,” Mortlake Recreation Reserve Committee of Management chair Jacinta Wareham said.
“Their contribution went above and beyond to try and get it back on track
“We also had a number of people in the community who donated their time and their trucks in helping out.
“Some of them were not even necessarily connected to the club so we appreciate their time and efforts.”
