Costly first quarter for Tigers

SIMPSON’S senior footballers pushed Birregurra all day but ultimately fell 15 points short in the round 13 match at Birregurra on Saturday.


The home team started strongly with a five goal to one opening quarter.

Simpson fought back hard in the second term, keeping Birregurra goalless while kicking three of their own.

The second half was relatively even, with the Tigers unable to bridge the gap.

Ryleigh McVilly, Louis Duynhoven and Mitch Reed were Simpson’s best, with McVilly, Jono Jennings and Jayden Gass kicking two goals each.

This week the Tigers face another stern test, hosting Alvie at Simpson.

In the reserves, Birregurra scored a 91 point win, 13.14.92 to 0.1.1.

Shaun Guy, Jason Kordupel and Cody Mason were Simpson’s best in the loss.

In the under 18s, Birregurra had an 8.16.64 to 0.2.2 win.

Bodhi Crole, Nate Sambell, Louis Janssen and Bradey Fratantaro were Simpson’s best.

In the under 15 football, Birregurra took the points with a 10.16.76 to 1.1.7 win.

Noah Deppeler, Tyler Love and Xander Weel were best for the Tigers, with Jyda Randle kicking the goal.

The under 12 game saw Birregurra have a 13.10.88 to 3.0.18 win.

Kaiden Teal kicked two goals and Jack Vogels one for the junior Tigers.

In the A grade netball, Simpson went down 66-39 to third-placed Birregurra.

Goal shooter Eliza Duynhoven scored 31 goals and was best for Simpson.

Consistent wing defence Chloe Woods and teenage wing attack Milah Crole were also named in the Tigers best.

Birregurra got the points in the B grade netball with a 40-28 win.

Best for the Tigers were Tahlia Daniels, Indy Holland and Rachel Mason, with Brianna Gass scoring 18 goals and Melissa Drayton 10.

Birregurra had a 51-26 win in the C grade game.

Captain Rachael Duynhoven scored 15 goals and was best for Simpson along with Hayley Weel and Kara Turner.

In D grade, Simpson had a 29-22 win.

Best for the Tigers were Lisa Arndell, Brianna Ferrari and Isabelle Robertson, with Ferrari shooting 19 goals and Lisa Arndell 10.

The 17 and under match saw Simpson have a 26-24 win.

Olivia Rhode, Esha Crole and Shayla Daniels were Simpson’s best, with Kaylee Jansen scoring 16 goals and Crole scoring 10.

Simpson scored a 43-25 win in the 15 and under netball.

Kustom Robertson scored 23 goals and captain Tyra Sambell 17, with Keisha McVilly, Sambell and Milah Crole the Tigers best.

Birregurra got the points in the 13 and under game with a 28-13 win.

Mia Arndell, Imogen McVilly and Alexis Barake were Simpson’s best, with Arndell scoring six goals.
