Council sees strong progress in plan report

THE first quarter of the first year Corangamite Shire Council’s Council Plan 2025-2029 is off to a great start, with 54 projects already underway.

Councillors were presented with a quarterly progress report, which provides a snapshot of how council is tracking with initiatives from the plan as part of regular reporting.

Of the 68 initiatives outlined in the Council Plan 2025-2029, 79.41 per cent (54) are in progress, 8.83 per cent (six) are completed and 11.76 per cent (eight) are yet to start.

Councillor Ruth Gstrein moved to note the report, calling the report “terrific”.

“We’re well along,” she said.

“It’s a quarterly report, and we’re into that second quarter now, so I’m expecting to see some more green dots in the next report.

“It was very good, concise and easy to read.”

The report focuses on four major areas – projects, policies, plans or strategies, services and advocacy.

Of the 19 projects listed in the plan, 18 are in progress while one is yet to commence.

Projects currently underway include developing online flood portal in partnership with catchment management authorities, undertaking design development for Camperdown Theatre Complex Transformation project and implementing a 72-hour resilience program.

Under the policy, plan or strategy focus area, two of the 15 initiatives – developing the Positive Ageing, Access and Inclusion plan and the Destination Action Plan – have been completed.

There were twelve initiatives in progress, including implementing Year One actions for Early Years Plan 2025-2035, reviewing council advocacy priorities and electrifying council’s light vehicle fleet, and one initiative is yet to begin.

Of the 21 initiatives under the service focus area, four have been completed, 12 are in progress and five have not yet been started.

Completed projects include increasing the opening hours of the Camperdown Library and exploring opportunities for walking and cycling connection improvements from the Camperdown Railway Station, while road resealing and resheeting, signage replacement across the shire and replacing the Lismore footbridge are still on the to-do list.

The advocacy focus area has all 13 initiatives ongoing, including advocating for funding for the Camperdown Production Precinct masterplan and the redevelopment of the Skipton Recreation Reserve, as well as for the renewal and upgrade of state-owned roads within the shire.

Councillor Jo Beard was seconder to the motion.

“At the start of the quarter, we had some carry forwards and some significant projects that still had to be delivered even prior to this beginning – it’s pretty amazing to thing that’s been occurring,” she said.

“That’s a genuine shout-out to staff.

“There’s such a broad mix of projects and initiatives which are there, so I’m looking forward to seeing what comes through in the next quarter.”
