Council welcomes new citizens

THIRTEEN new Australians made their citizenship pledge in Camperdown last Tuesday.

Corangamite Shire mayor councillor Kate Makin officiated the ceremony and welcomed Xuehua Wei, Robert Oloko Ayimba, Keith Wallace, Natalie Wallace-Lamont, Gregory Roberts, Shalanda Roos, Hui Liu, Jacqueline Roberts, Jesse, Cara and Penny Love, Luis Schneiders and Jonathan Conway.

Each new Australian received their official citizenship certificate from the Federal Government, a gift bag and a long-leaf wax flower to symbolise their growth, new life, and putting down new roots in Australia.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome these new members of the Australian community,” Cr Makin said.

“They have joined us from countries in three continents including Brazil, Cameroon, China, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK, bringing diversity and cultural depth to enrich our multicultural community.”
