Couple aims to end Polio
THE Rotary Club of Cobden will host Adelaide rotarians Joyce and Phil Ogden next week.
The couple, who are both in their 70’s, are riding a tandem bike from Adelaide to Melbourne to raise awareness and funds to support Rotary International’s push to eradicate Polio world-wide.
Rotary Club of Cobden’s Gary Kimber sad the pair have planned their journey and expect it to take about 25 days in total, arriving in Cobden on Thursday, April 18.
“They have two slogans, which are End Polio Now and Hit Polio for Six - they are hoping people along the way will donate at least $6,” he said.
“They will be making a presentation to Cobden Rotary and the club is hoping to have a large group of local people present to ear their story and support the riders.
“A finger food dinner will be provided for all guests with hot and cold drinks available.”
Mr Kimber said Rotary International has almost been successful in eradicating Polio, with just a few hundred cases believed to be remaining in Asia.
Residents interested in attending are asked to contact Rotary Club of Cobden member Lesley Brown on 0409 535 914 before Monday, April 15.
