TIMBOON couple Eddy and Leny Tregea are marking a special milestone today – their 65th wedding anniversary.
The pair will celebrate their blue sapphire anniversary this week with an afternoon tea with family.
Mrs Tregea said she had recently celebrated her 85th birthday and Mother’s Day.
“We’ve had enough parties, so we’re just having an afternoon tea,” she said.
Meeting at a dance at the Scotts Creek Hall for the first time, the pair continued to come across each other at dances across the district before kindling a romance.
“I was 16 at the time and not allowed out with boys,” Mrs Tregea said.
“We kept coming across each other at dances.”
And the rest, as they say, was history with The couple were the couple married at the Camperdown Catholic Church on June 29, 1957.
They went on to have five children, five grand-children and three great grand-children.
Settling in Timboon, the pair said they were proud to reach their 65th wedding anniversary.
“I’m surprised that we made it so far, just with our age, all our family died younger,” Mrs Tregea said.
“For us to make 65 years is quite special, I just don’t know how to explain it to be honest.”
Mr Tregea said he “feels much the same, we’re very proud”.
When asked what the secret to a long and happy marriage was, the couple both answered communication.
“You’ve got to talk things through; there’s two of you there,” Mrs Tregea said.
“The more people that realise that, the happier they will be.”
Moving from Holland as a child, Mrs Tregea said she had had a “good life here” and she had met a “good bloke”.
The couple received letters of congratulation on their anniversary from the Queen, Governor General and Member for Polwarth Richard Riordan.
