TOP side Russells Creek proved too strong for Timboon’s 15 and unders during last Saturday’s grand final clash.
Proudly flying the Demons flag at Reid Oval, the young footballers put on a great show in front of a big crowd according to team coach Tim Parsons.
“We went down by seven points in the end, but it was a great game and I’m really proud of all the boys,” Parsons said.
“We finished the home and away season in second place and Russells Creek finished undefeated on top.
“It was always going to be a tough game but we put on a great show and the boys can all hold their heads high.”
The Demons went into the half-time break with a handy 16-point lead and carried that momentum into the third quarter.
At the start of the final term the Demons were a goal up, however, Russells Creek piled on three goals and three behinds in the final term while containing the Demons to just one goal, one.
“We lost a bit of steam when one of our main on-ballers got knocked out early in the third, and I think some of Russells Creek’s bigger blokes really stood up more in the last,” Parsons said.
“But to our boys’ credit they never gave in and they showed some great skills all over the ground. I could not have been prouder of their efforts all day.”
Fourteen-year-old Demon’s centre Rylee Parsons was awarded the best on ground medal, capping off a great season for the talented teen – who was also named the league’s best and fairest.
“Rylee had a ripper game in the middle; he took some strong marks overhead and really played his role on the ground for us,” Parsons said.
Final scores were Russells Creek 6.9.45 to Timboon Demons 5.8.38.
Best for the Demons were Rylee Parsons, Jarrod Ferguson, Jasper Makin, Ryan Mottram, Nathan Ellemore and Caius Cathnell.
Goals went to Cooper Edmonds, Jarrod Ferguson, Jasper Makin, Ryan Mottram and Rylee Parsons.
