Dangerous trees pruned back at rec reserve
TREES at the Terang Recreation Reserve began being trimmed this week in a bid to heighten community safety.

Terang Recreation Reserve Committee chair Paul Moloney said the decision had been made to reshape the trees after concerns were raised there was increasing danger.
“We determined they were dangerous as they are getting pretty old and are rotting,” he said.
“We thought we would trim them back.
“We may take out a few and possibly replace them.”
Mr Moloney said it had been about 20 years since a significant pruning of the trees.
“It was long overdue,” he said.
“The trees had become very tall so they were starting to lose limbs.
“With the public risk, we thought it would be a good chance to remove a couple of the more dangerous ones but to trim them all back so we’ve still got the shade and the aesthetics.”
Mr Moloney said the trees were an iconic part of the silhouette at Bloods’ games, which was why only two trees deemed unsafe would be removed while the others are simply being reshaped.
“They’ve been there since well before my day,” he said.
“They have certainly been there a long time so it’s a pity.
“We’re reshaping most of the trees so hopefully they survive and we might yet get some more life out of them.”
Mr Moloney warned smoke may be present in the area throughout the week as the felled limbs are being burned on-site.
