LONG term Darlington Country Fire Authority (CFA) volunteers have had their efforts recognised.

The Darlington Fire Brigade recently had a celebration for the awarding of the National Medal with 1st, 2nd and 3rd Clasps to long serving member Ron (Curl) La Franchi.

About 40 members and friends attended the presentation, which was followed with lunch.

Member for Wannon Dan Tehan attended, as well as Corangamite Shire mayor Ruth Gstrein and CFA board member Beth Davidson.

Ms Davidson shared with the audience Mr La Franchi’s achievements and involvement in the CFA since he joined in 1972.

Mr Tehan also spoke of the importance of volunteers and their families in the local community and the great service Mr La Franchi had given.

Mr La Franchi thanked Ms Davidson and Mr Tehan for their words.

He said he did not think he had done that much over his time in the CFA, but was surprised when all his contributions had been read out.

Life memberships were also given out to the following members for their services to the Darlington CFA which included:

Colin Pickering, 50 years;

Stephen Cole, 45 years;

James Gray, 45 years;

Clive May, 40 years; and

Tony Wynd, 35 years.

Service medals were also awarded to other members on the day.
