Day, Ayres claim Fun Run

THE 40th annual Terang and District Lions Fun Run and Walk hit the streets last Friday, with a solid turnout of runners and walkers.

THE 40th annual Terang and District Lions Fun Run and Walk hit the streets last Friday, with a solid turnout of runners and walkers.

Hundreds made the 5.92 kilometre trek from Noorat to Terang last Friday, braving strong headwinds.

Jason Day claimed the overall win, crossing the line in 20.28. He was followed by Tom Kelly (20.56) in second and Zac Rowarth (21.22) in third.

Rachael Ayres claimed the overall win in the female category, dashing home for her third win in a time of 23.11. She was followed by Grace Morrison (24.12) and Claudia Lee (25.29).

In the under 18s Duncan Ward was not far off the pace, getting home in 21.33. Mitch Roberts (22.04) and Jacan Brooks (23.49) trailed for second and third.

Abbey Benson (28.46) claimed victory, while Dayna Haberfield (31.53) and Kayla McConnell (38.01) rounded out the top three in the under 18 female category.

In the under 15s Callen Wade crossed the line first in 24.14, with Xavier Riches trailing with a time of 29.53.

The female under 15s saw a strong time for winner Jess Bell, clocking in at 28.24. Clare Matthews (36.13) and Lilly Dixon (38.03) trailed.

Under 13 winner Michael Lougheed held a quick pace, crossing the line in 24.36 with Louis Beaton (25.44) and Will Foster (26.18) close behind.

Taylor Bell (32.18) collected the win in the female Under 13 category, with Beth Herrernan (33.05) and Elise Wood (34.18) keeping it close.

In the veteran 35-44 category, Richard Wade crossed in 21.35 with Liam Haberfield (25.28) crossing in second, while Kate Foster nabbed first with a time of 25.46 in the female 35-44 category.

The 45 plus category gave the younger runners all they could handle, with Craig Bramley finishing in a blazing 23.16 and Sue Francis crossing in 30.48.

Terang and District Lions Fun Run and Walk co-ordinator Kerrin McKenzie congratulated the top runners on their success.

“It was a highly competitive race in all categories,” he said.

“There was only seconds between some of the fourth, fifth and sixth runners as well, so we thought it was a very competitive race across all age levels.”
