LISMORE Derrinallum’s senior footballers will be eyeing off top spot on the ladder when they meet Tatyoon this weekend.

The Demons currently sit in third position, equal on points but only percentage behind second-placed Ararat and ladder leaders Tatyoon who are both undefeated.

“Last Saturday was certainly very much a contested contest,” coach Alec Wiltshire said.

“It was a real hard fought battle so I was pleased with how the boys stood up and fought till the end.

“We were down by a goal at three-quarter time so to kick six goals in the final term and keep Bolac scoreless was very rewarding.”

Wiltshire praised the efforts of Josh Anderson at full-back, who repelled a lot of Bolac’s attack.

“Josh had a ripper game for us and he was well supported right across the backline.”

Along with Anderson, best players for the Demons included Charlie Brett, Lachlan Bryant, Bradley Ward, Jack Pitts and Will Langley.

Goal kickers: two each to Benjamin Atkins, Jack Atkins, Will Langley and Michael Lockyer, and singles to Matthew Bacon, Hayden Brett, Beau Ketchen and Jack Pitts.

Wiltshire is hoping the win will give his side added confidence and self-belief heading into this Saturday’s clash with Tatyoon.

“Tatyoon is certainly the benchmark at the moment. They (along with second-placed Ararat) are both undefeated and we’re excited to face them and really see where we’re at.

“Earlier in the season we lost to Ararat by four goals but we were coming off big wins over Caramut and Moyston the previous weeks and probably weren’t prepared for the shake-up. It was a good wake up call for us.”

Wiltshire believes this Saturday’s match-up will bring out his side’s strengths and weaknesses.

“The key for us on Saturday will be just to play our game and not get overawed by such a strong opponent.”

In last Saturday’s reserves match the Demons enjoyed a 101-point victory, finishing 19.8.122 to Bolac’s 3.3.21.

This win places the Demons second on the ladder, with only percentage separating them from top-of-the-table Tatyoon.
