Demons defeat minor premiers

LISMORE Derrinallum’s A grade netballers enjoyed a 15-goal victory over the Tigers last weekend.
The Demons were thrilled to take the points over 2021 minor premiers, Woorndoo Mortlake, at Lismore on Saturday.
Demons senior coach Amy Lodge praised her side’s determination and four-quarter effort in the 53-38 win.
“It was a great game and although the scoreboard doesn’t really reflect it, it was pretty close - both teams matched up well on the court,” Lodge said.
“Our defensive pressure was great and it was pleasing to see our intensity didn’t drop off at all."
“Unfortunately one of our goalers, Lauren McLennan, suffered what could possibly be a season-ending achilles injury in the third quarter.”
McLennan is now awaiting scan results and Lodge is facing the possibility of needing to qualify an extra player in the lead-up to finals.
“With just four rounds to go, I’m scrambling for an extra player just in case worst case scenario plays out."
“It’s not ideal at the pointy end of the season but it is what it is and we’re all hoping for a good outcome for Loz.”
Best for the Demons on Saturday were Tess Lamont and Steff Cox.
The win places the Demons in fifth place – one game behind Ararat and a game and a half clear of Caramut in sixth.
Saturday’s result pushed Woorndoo Mortlake to seventh.
In other senior matches on Saturday, the Demons’ B grade side was defeated 22-36 (best on court Madison Helmore and Toni DeGrandi) while C grade enjoyed a 26-21 win (with Emily Murray and Leah Holt named best).
The 17 and under team was defeated 8-48, the 15s lost 17-21 while the 13 and unders won 13-10 (with Breeana Daffy named best for the Demons).
The Demons run home to the finals should see them safe in the top five.
They will face bottom side Moyston Willaura this weekend, followed by Hawkesdale Macarthur (third) and Ararat (fourth) before a final round clash with 10th placed Great Western.
