Demons dominance continues
LISMORE/Derrinallum’s senior footballers continued their strong start to the season with a 73 point win over Hawkesdale/Macarthur in the round three Mininera and District match on Saturday.
The reigning premiers led all day to record a 19.10.124 to 8.3.51 win at the Derrinallum Recreation Reserve.
“It was pleasing to put four quarters of footy together on the weekend, we’ve had a few ups and downs over the first two weeks, I walked away from Saturday pretty happy with the outcome, the boys really stood up,” Lismore/Derrinallum coach Alec Wiltshire said.
“They came out with a bit of venom and a bit of off-the-ball stuff to try and take us off our game; our boys responded pretty well to it which is the pleasing thing, that the boys actually focus even harder on footy now when teams come out with those sort of tactics.”
The Demons mentor was thrilled to go into the first break with a 13-point lead after kicking into the wind in the opening term.
But it was the dominant second term where his team piled on seven goals that was most pleasing.
“We were kicking into probably a three or four goal breeze, so to be up at quarter time I was pretty happy with that.
“And our second quarter of footy was as good as we’ve probably played in the last two years.
“In our stats we had unreal numbers for tackles and clearances.”
Star goalkicker Lachie Constable bagged eight goals and was best on ground.
“Lachie kicked eight of his own and probably gave off five or six as well.
“He’s a good player, and when he brings others into the game it makes him even better; he took a couple of really good marks early, one on one, just presented and was a fantastic target all day.”
Ruckman Henry Walsh continues to be a huge factor for the Demons, with Blake Scott also in the best after kicking three goals.
“Henry’s playing really good footy and probably just that presence around the footy too, like his follow up work, his tap work; he’s actually chipping into space now and just letting our runners go to work.
“Blake copped a lot of attention on the weekend too, he lets his footy do the talking, he’s talented, we’ve been working pretty hard for him to focus on footy, and we’re reaping the rewards now.”
Tomorrow Lismore/Derrinallum play Great Western at Great Western.
The reserves match also saw the Demons win strongly, 13.16.94 to 4.5.29.
Steven Ryan, Kaleb McIlveen and Tyla Reid were best in the win, with Jackson Davies kicking three goals and Riley Browne two.
In the under 17s, Hawkesdale/Macarthur were too strong, winning 13.6.84 to 3.4.22.
Campbell Greig, Jackson Davies and Jack Fay were best for the Demons, with Luke Bond, Eddie Gellie and Davies kicking a goal each.
The under 13 game saw Lismore/Derrinallum score an 8.8.56 to 1.1.7 win.
Best for the junior Demons were Eddie Gellie, Patrick Greig and Andrew Wylie, with Wylie kicking two goals.
The A grade netball saw Hawkesdale/Macarthur register a 37-31 win.
Best for the Demons were Alex Sheridan and Tess Lamont, with Rachel Vagg shooting 18 goals.
Hawkesdale/Macarthur also took out the B grade game with a 25-21 win.
Bridget Filbay and Maddie Mitchell were the best for the B grade Demons, with Filbay shooting 11 goals and Lauren McLennan 10.
In C grade, Hawkesdale/Macarthur scored an 18-10 win.
Best for the Demons were Neave Thompson and Lilly Miller.
The 17 and under netball saw Lismore/Derrinallum score a 20-12 win.
Tash Henderson and Georgia Kerr were best for the Demons, with Lacey Grundmann shooting 12 goals and Neave Thompson eight.
No 15 and under netball game was played as Hawkesdale/Macarthur has not fielded a team in 2026.
The 13 and under game saw Hawkesdale/Macarthur score a 27-6 win.
Abby McQuade and Georgia Mulraney were best for the junior Demons, with Alexis Henderson and Evie Mitchell scoring two goals each.
