Demons dominance continues
LISMORE/Derrinallum had a strong 59 point win over finals contender Glenthompson/Dunkeld in the round nine Mininera and District senior football match last Saturday.
After a tight first quarter, the Demons kicked away to record a 12.11.83 to 3.6.24 win at the Lismore Recreation Reserve.
“Full credit to Glenthompson/Dunkeld, they’re young and fit, and they came with a plan and probably congested the game up a little bit, we just took a little bit to adjust at times to that style of footy,” Lismore/Derrinallum coach Alec Wiltshire said.
“We turned it up a cog in the second quarter and broke the game open a little bit, which was good, it was a workmanlike sort of performance.”
Switching the magnets around at quarter time helped the Demons shake up the game.
“We changed a little bit of personnel around, we loaded up the midfield a little bit and up forward, and rolled some defenders through the midfield which put a bit of speed on the footy a little bit too.
“We found we probably were getting bottled up a little bit so Tommy Walsh rolled through the midfield, which is out of the norm; he was really good and a key turning point in our dynamic in the second quarter.”
Star ruckman Henry Walsh put in another best on ground performance.
“Henry was probably best on by a long way.
“Sometimes he can sort of misjudge the drop zone, but on Saturday he was marking everything, and if he wasn’t marking it, he was picking up a ground ball at full tilt or laying tackles, he was just everywhere on the weekend.”
Austin Humphrey with four goals and Lachie Constable with three led the scoring for the Demons.
“Aussie kicked like three of his four in the second quarter, all just after quarter time which gave us good momentum.
“Glenthompson/Dunkeld played arguably one of their better players on Constable that usually plays forward, he’s obviously a focal point of our team, but he played a real team oriented game as well, sacrificed his game a little bit for the betterment of the team, which was good to see as well.”
This week the undefeated Demons play 10th placed SMW Rovers at Lismore.
“There’s probably been no love lost between SMW Rovers and us over the years, they seem to always grow a leg when they play us, so we’re expecting a pretty good contest.”
The reserves match also saw the Demons win strongly, 15.9.99 to 3.0.18.
Jack Atkins, Jack Pitts and Sean Ross were best in the win, with Pitts and Todd Lamont kicking three goals each.
Glenthompson/Dunkeld got the points in the under 17 football with an 11.12.78 to 0.5.5 win.
Campbell Greig, Jackson Davies and Jack Fay were best for the Demons in the loss.
The under 13 football saw Lismore/Derrinallum score a 9.11.65 to 0.0.0 win.
Charles Turner, Eddie Gellie and Mitchell Barr were the junior Demons best, with Gellie kicking three goals and Andrew Wylie two.
The A grade netball saw Lismore/Derrinallum register a 36-33 win.
Best for the Demons were Tess Lamont and Steph Smith.
Glenthompson/Dunkeld took out the B grade game with a 34-26 win.
Best for Lismore/Derrinallum were Ebony McLoughlin and Georgia Kerr.
The C grade game ended in a 18-18 draw, with Tiarna Evans and Darcie Marquand best for the Demons.
The 17 and under netball saw Glenthompson/Dunkeld score a 57-11 win.
Sophie Fay and Hexi Creen were best for the Demons.
Glenthompson/Dunkeld recorded a 42-8 win in 15 and under netball.
Ruby Stephenson and Georgia Kerr were the Demons best in the loss.
The 13 and under game saw Glenthompson/Dunkeld score a 26-12 win, with Oscar Stephenson and Evie Mitchell best for the junior Demons.
