TIMBOON Demons are enjoying the wins that come its way as the club continues to rebuild at senior level.

With key players regularly missing and limited depth this season, the ninth-ranked Demons recorded its second win of the year over Dennington on Saturday.

Coach Dennis Hobbs said the 11.8 (74) to 7.6 (48) victory was a good reward for the playing group given the battles it had endured this season.

Nonetheless, Hobbs said his side would enjoy the winning feeling every chance it could.

“I just said to them any win is a good win,” he said.

“That’s what we’ll take out of it because we’re pretty realistic about where we are at.

“It was good to have a good go at it against a side that is at our level and they (the boys) enjoyed it with a win.

“They kept going all day which they needed to. It was a good result.”

Hobbs said the win was a step in the right direction for a side he was trying to make more team-oriented.

He said given the limited depth within the club and the recent run of losses, he wanted to have a game-plan in place which focused on team football, rather than the individual.

While at times it has not worked smoothly, Saturday’s display showed that when it does, the results follow for the Demons.

“When you’re losing a lot, which we are, you can tend to have players go kick chasing and we’re just making them aware of that,” Hobbs said.

“I’m just trying to get them to be more team-based and sacrificing their own game for others.

“We want to make it (the gameplan) more a team focus, especially for the younger players who are the future of the club.”

Those younger players Hobbs speaks of shone in the victory, with the likes of Josh Worboys, Jordy Fowler and Connor Cardwell all among the best players.

“Josh is a young fella who we’re settling into centre half back and trying to teach him a few things and he’s done that nicely, so we’re really happy with him,” Hobbs said.

“Jordy is playing a couple of roles but mainly in the backline as a springboard. He’s new to that but his job is that we want him to start our attack and he did that well and hit his targets.

“The younger ones tend to respond to my demands and Connor is the same, he’s quite aware of what he needs to do.”

Hobbs also reserved praised for defender Craig Dower and ruckman Marcus Hickey.

“Craig came in for Sam Newey and he did very well,” he said.

“He’s an older player but he did the job we wanted him to do.

“Barney did a good job again too, he was just tireless.

“The older ones take him for granted a bit but he does the work for us every week.”

The Demons are now set to face fourth-placed Panmure at Timboon this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Timboon’s A grade netball side extended its winning run to four games with a hard-fought 36-17 victory.

Mid-courter Mellissa McKenzie was best on court alongside defender Alicia Blain and goalie Raina Hunt (16 goals), while Hayley Plozza and Laura Rosolin also chipped in with 10 goals apiece.

The win left the Demons four points clear in second place ahead of this weekend’s clash with the fourth-ranked Bulldogs.
