Demons remain undefeated
REIGNING Mininera and District premiers Lismore/Derrinallum continued their unbeaten run in 2026 with a huge 143-point win over Tatyoon last Saturday.
The Demons dominated all day in their 25.14.164 to 3.3.21 win at the Derrinallum Recreation Reserve.
This was their last game at that venue for the year, with the Demons now switching to the Lismore Recreation Reserve for the remainder of the season.
“It was really good, in my time we’ve never beaten a Tatyoon team like that,” Lismore/Derrinallum coach Alec Wiltshire said.
“We put the hard word on our players before the game to not play to the scoreboard, to just play footy, and they played four quarters of really solid footy.”
Demons spearhead Lachie Constable had a day out, bagging 10 goals in the win to take him to 43 for the season to date.
“Lachie used his athletic attributes to get up the ground, when he’s playing good footy he’s running open goals basically as well; he would have gotten three or four just through pure work rate, getting up the ground and then working back into an open 50.
“We all know he can take a mark one-on-one and lead up with the footy, but when he’s getting them off the deck, running back into space, it’s good to watch.”
Consistent ruckman Henry Walsh was named best for the Demons in the win.
“Henry was dominant, they tried to ruffle his feathers early in the first quarter and it sort of poked the bear a little bit.
“He was just a man on a mission after that, grabbing ball out of the ruck, hitting torpedoes and pushing back and taking marks in defence, he was everywhere.”
Apart from Constable, the other main goalkickers for the Demons were Jack McCallum with five and Austin Humphrey with four.
“Saturday was probably the first time in the year where we said that we could’ve had any one of the 21 in the best six.
“That’s how we see our DNA is that we get 21 contributors, it took Wayne (co-coach Wayne Walsh) and I half an hour to pick the best, each player played their part and as coaches that was pretty pleasing as well.”
The Mininera League has this week off, the next game for Lismore/Derrinallum being on June 13 against the Ararat Eagles at Ararat.
The reserves match also saw the Demons win strongly, 13.9.87 to 2.3.15.
Jock McGavin, Ryan Jeffrey and Hunter Thompson were best in the win, with Jeffrey kicking five goals with two each to McGavin and Matthew Bacon.
In the under 17s, Lismore/Derrinallum kicked 4.9.33 to Tatyoon’s 5.3.33 to end in a draw.
Jackson Davies, Jackson Lyddy and Campbell Greig were best for the Demons, with Davies, Bray Srdoc, Tyler Daffy and Luke Bond kicking a goal each.
The under 13 game saw Tatyoon score an 3.8.26 to 1.3.9 win.
Eddie Gellie, Mitchell Barr and Christopher Cronly were best for the Demons, with Angus Moyle kicking the only goal.
The A grade netball saw Tatyoon register a 36-23 win.
Best for the Demons were Alex Sheridan and Issy McLinden, with Rachel Vagg scoring 10 goals.
Tatyoon also took out the B grade game with a 38-24 win.
Hannah Walker and Eliza Humphrey were best for the B grade Demons, with Lauren McLennan shooting 12 goals.
In C grade, Tatyoon scored a 19-11 win, with Darcie Marquand and Lacey Grundman best for the Demons.
The 17 and under netball saw Tatyoon score a 51-14 win.
Lacey Grundman and Sophie Fay were best for the Demons, with Lacey Grundmann shooting 10 goals.
Tatyoon recorded a big 41-5 win in 15 and under netball.
Ruby Stephenson and Sophie McConachy were the Demons best.
The 13 and under game saw Tatyoon score a 13-10 win.
Ivy Moyle, Lily Webster and Stella Dudman were best for the junior Demons, with Alexis Henderson shooting seven goals.
