Demons sit well at season break
LISMORE/Derrinallum has scored a rare senior football win at Tatyoon, registering a 13.13.91 to 11.9.75 win over the home team.
“It’s always nice to beat Tatyoon, they took it right up to us and made the game hard work,” Demons coach Alec Wiltshire said.
“They beat us in contested footy, they were much better than having only six points (one win and a draw) would suggest.”
Going into the last quarter with a 16-point lead, the Demons couldn’t put Tatyoon away, scoring eight behinds without kicking a goal, while the Hawks kicked one goal two behinds.
Henry Walsh was best on ground, with Wiltshire stressing how important the ruckman’s contribution was.
“Henry was brilliant all day, he went off with an ankle injury in the third quarter and had to get strapped up to return,” he said
“He took some big marks and was superb for us.”
Midfielder Blake Scott was also a strong contributor, kicking four goals and drawing praise from his coach.
“Blake again played a brilliant game, his contribution was as strong as Henry’s,” Wiltshire said.
“All of Blake’s goals are for the highlight reel, three or four bounces and kicking them on the run, he’s hard to stop.”
Heading into a week off, Wiltshire is thrilled with where the Demons sit.
“We’re very happy, I definitely would have taken being six and one at this point if offered that before the season,” he said.
“That ticks off our phase one, we’ll rest up this week and then hit the next part of the season hard.”
