Demons turn the tables on Bolac

LISMORE/Derrinallum’s senior footballers orchestrated a 91 point turnaround against Wickliffe/Lake Bolac in the round 12 match at Lismore.

Wickliffe/Lake Bolac scored a nine point win over the Demons at Lake Bolac back in round two, but Lismore/Derrinallum flexed on Saturday to record an 82 point victory.

“A 15-goal turnaround from round two is a good benchmark to show our improvement,” Demons coach Alec Wiltshire said of the 18.9.117 to 5.5.35 win.

“It was a really pleasing game, a proper four quarter performance.”

While the Demons led by 27 points at quarter time, it was the second quarter effort that most impressed the Lismore/Derrinallum mentor.

“We kicked into the wind in the second quarter and kicked seven goals on the back of our midfield clearances and forward pressure,” Wiltshire said.

Star Demons Austin Humphrey and Henry Walsh were again the best for Lismore/Derrinallum.

“Austin’s attack on the footy was superb, and he probably set up 10 goals in addition to the goals he kicked,” Wiltshire said.

“Henry was just such a presence all over the ground and dominant in the ruck.”

Humphrey and key forward Lachie Constable kicked six goals each for the Demons, with Blake Scott and Jack Parker kicking two each.

Hayden Brett was also in the best for Lismore/Derrinallum, Wiltshire full of praise for his contribution.

“Hayden’s a bit unheralded, but he does all the one percenters, the block and tackles; he’s a fantastic team player.”

Lachie McGavin became the latest player to make his senior debut for Lismore/Derrinallum.

“Lachie was a late call up on Friday night, he stepped straight in and really took his opportunity.”

This week the Demons travel to play Great Western.

Lismore/Derrinallum also had a win in the reserves game, 8.9.57 to 2.5.17.

Luke Fellows, Ryan Marquand and Tyla Reid were best for the Demons reserves, with Jack Atkins and Xavier Coutts kicking two goals each.

In the under 16.5s football, Lismore/Derrinallum had a 7.7.49 to 4.7.31 win.

Laine Scott, Xavier Coutts and Jake Burleigh were best for the junior Demons, with Bailey Childs and Jack Fay kicking two goals each.

Lila Sutterby and Hannah Walker were best for the Demons, with Emily Murray shooting 25 goals and Walker 13.
