Digging deep for cancer research
RAISING vital funds for cancer research and support was as simple as flicking on the kettle in Terang last week.
A Biggest Morning Tea event was held at the All Saints Anglican Church last Thursday as members of the Terang and district community dug deep to raise funds for the cause, which raised an incredible $1106.20.
Event organiser Julie Pomeroy said the Terang All Saints Anglican Church community was among more than 17,500 registered morning tea hosts as small fundraisers spread across the nation made a significant difference.
“The Cuppa for Cancer, as part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, has over the past two decades provided funds for life-saving cancer research,” she said.
“The result of this is more refined treatments and higher success rates.
“For many people who experience cancer, they are thankful for the funds that are raised from this morning tea to help fund further research and support.”
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea has raised more than $1.2 million so far in 2026.
All funds raised go towards research and support, with investment in research increasing survival rates 71 per cent since the 1980s and support flowing to the almost 150,000 Australian diagnosed with cancer each year.
Mrs Pomeroy said she was elated with the result.
“It’s just amazing,” she said.
“The Dutch auction was such a big draw card.
“I think we’re all feeling quite privileged and humbled.
“We also realise so many people who have been diagnosed with cancer can benefit from these initiatives, so we’re all feeling it will go a long way to helping someone.”
