“It was a really disappointing result,” lamented Terang Mortlake coach Lewis Taylor.

“We didn’t show up and you really get found out in this competition if you don’t show up.”

After an even first quarter, the home team gained the ascendency with a seven goal to none second term.

The Bloods came back with a strong third quarter before the home team, with the aid of the wind, kicked away in the final term to record a 14.14.98 to 9.12.66 win.

“We couldn’t capitalise on our opportunities in the first quarter,” Taylor said of the opening where the Bloods kicked one goal four to Cobden’s one goal three.

“Our intensity was just not there in the second quarter.”

While the third quarter comeback, where the Bloods got back to within a goal, was pleasing for Taylor, the full game effort was not.

“We let ourselves down by really only playing one of the four quarters to our capabilities,” he said.

Ryley Hutchins and captain Alex Moloney were best for the Bloods.

“Ryley came back from a few weeks out injured and was really good,” Taylor said.

“We had to swing Alex from the backline to the forward line, he kicked five goals and really got us back in the game.”

The loss leaves Terang Mortlake four points out of the top five, with a massive game against fifth-placed Koroit at Mortlake this week.

“All games from now on are big games for us.

“We want to play these big games and bounce back with more intensity.”
