Division one bounces back for a win

ROUND six in midweek pennant has seen Cobden Bowling Club’s division one team bounce back with a satisfying 74-51 win over a strong Camperdown Golf team at home.

Ann Scott, Trevor Roberts, Bert Strampel and Doreen Coverdale won easily from Barbara Boyd, Irene Wyles, John O’Donohue and Noelene Tolland 29-11.

Margaret Hester, Bazil Hammond, Elaine Telford and Loreign Andrews won 24-18 over Chester Reilly, Pam Place, Rowena Dunstan and Dan Stewart.

Denis Delaney, Sue Couch, Peter Richardson and Brian Howard just went down 21-22 to Leanne Fitzgerald, Craig Skene, Sam Clarke and Greg Teal.

This has lifted Cobden from the bottom of the ladder to sixth.

Division two also played at home and obliterated a depleted Derrinallum team, who were missing three players, 94-42.

Greg Rooke, Colin Spokes, David Luker and Des Couch won 34-9 from Michael Haigh, Anne Hughes and Louise Molesworth.

Janelle Rohan, Paul Dwyer, Evelyn Grayland and David Childs won 35-13 from Ken Wynd, Pam Birch and Jane French.

Joy Beaton, Kath Spokes, Denise Robertson and Patsy Neal won 25-20 over Adrian McKenzie, Lorraine Uren and Kevin Molesworth.

Credit is to be given to Derrinallum for fielding a team and not forfeiting.

Cobden is now third on the ladder, but still 14 points behinds ladder leaders Colac 2.

In weekend pennant division two put on a good showing against Apollo Bay at their home ground, winning 99-77.

Colin Hammond, Brendan Hammond, Murray Williamson and Tom Robertson went down to S. Kent, B. Kent, M. Hall and D. Maiden 17-19.

Noah Mungean, Darren Mulgrew, Greg Rooke and Bazil Hammond had a good win 29-7 against R. Lennie, A. Crouch, L. Thomas and P. Telford.

Nick Kemp, Ashley Sinnott, Kathryn Robertson and Mitch Reed won 35-24 from S. King, G. Harrison, A. Alexander and A. Rowarth.

Terry Beasley, Peter Richardson, Brendan Hutt and Lachie Taylor lost 18-27 to B. Flack, B. Finnigan, T. Cowan-Clark and B. Munro.

Cobden is still sitting in second place, 10 points behind Lorne, but has created a little space from the rest of the field.

At home, division three lost to ladder leaders Simpson 74-89.

Trevor Roberts, Pat Hickey, Kath Spokes and Jim O’Shea lost 17-23 to R. Yendall, G. Langenhauizen, G. Simpson and L. Neale.

Richard McVilly, Ken Lynch, Jeff Hester and Janine Hutt lost 16-28 to M. Seabrook, T. Harris, C. Dixon and H. Hayden.

Leon Carrigan, Margaret Hester, Keith Simmonds and Brian Howard managed a win over H. Robbins, B. Newcombe, B. Newcombe and P. Dejong, 21-15.

David Staggard, Bert Strampel, Colin Spokes and Ken Farquharson also lost to A. Swayn, S. Ackerley, A. Beasy and M. Gass 20-23.

Cobden has slipped back to fourth spot on the ladder.

Division four received a walkover from Winchelsea who were unable to field a team.

This has boosted Cobden to fourth spot on the ladder, just ahead of Cressy by percentage.
