Downpour dampens christmas after dry year

A DOWNPOUR dampened Christmas Day as mild conditions concluded a drier-than-usual year.

Through December 57.6mm of rain hit the ground over Cobden, slightly above the long-term average of 54.1mm.

The highest daily rainfall during December was recorded on Christmas Day with 20.8mm of rain hitting the ground, the highest daily rainfall recorded in the second half of 2023.

The result saw the annual rainfall tally reach 751mm over Cobden for 2023, well below the long-term average of 838.7mm over 12-months.

The wettest month for 2023 was June with 117mm of rain falling, while the driest was January with just 16mm recorded.

The highest daily rainfall for the year was recorded early in the year with 26.8mm of rain recorded on February 3.
