Drug drivers busted

POLICE are disappointed after two drivers tested positive to drugs last week, two days in a row.

Camperdown Police Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Raven said the first driver was intercepted by Camperdown Police on Tuesday, March 10 in Cobden.

“The driver was drug-tested and returned a positive result,” he said.

“He was taken back to the Camperdown Police Station and will appear in court at a later date.

“On the night of Wednesday, March 11, police intercepted a 28-year-old male.

“He was drug tested and also returned a positive result.

“He received a penalty infringement notice for that.”

First-time drug and drink driver offenders can receive a fine of up to 12 penalty units, have their licence suspended or cancelled for at least six months and be required to complete a driver behaviour change program.

Those who face court of the charge could record a conviction and be required to have a zero-blood alcohol concentration (BAC) condition on their licence for three years.

Act Snr Sgt Raven said police units will be patrolling day and night, and drug and drink drivers will be caught.

“We are actively patrolling the streets and we have the capability to do drug and alcohol testing in rural areas,” he said.

“If drivers continue to drink or drug drive, they will be tested

“If they get behind the wheel while impaired by drugs or alcohol, it will impair their driving and puts other road users at serious risk of injury or death.”
