Dry start to the new year

RAIN gauges were dry throughout January as the new year began with minimal rainfall.

Just 3.2mm of rain was recorded over Cobden in the first month of the year.

The result falls well below the long-term average of 41mm through the same period.

The highest daily rainfall was experienced on both January 20 and 22, with each date seeing 1.4mm of rain fall over a 24-hour period.

The only other day in which any rain was recorded was January 9, with 0.4mm of rain having fallen.

This saw a whopping 28 days of January with no rainfall having been recorded.

The result for January was even drier than the previous year, with 15.2mm of rain having fallen in the drought-stricken January of 2025.
