Duo return to pool for fundraiser
LOCAL boy Jake Burleigh and his mother Cathy are once again diving in for a good cause.

LOCAL boy Jake Burleigh and his mother Cathy are once again diving in for a good cause.
Participating in the fifth annual Starlight Super Swim Challenge, Jake aims to swim 50km in the month of February, while Ms Burleigh aims to swim 20km.
So far, Jake has swum over 37km in two weeks, while Ms Burleigh has completed 13.3km of her target.
Ms Burleigh is expecting Jake to achieve his goal within the next week or two.
“I believe he will reach it by the end of next week too,” she said.
The Starlight Super Swim Challenge raises funds for the charity’s in-hospital services such as Captain Starlight and Starlight Express rooms, which bring joy to seriously ill children.
Regardless of age and fitness level, anyone can participate in the challenge.
Ms Burleigh says it has been a lot of fun, and finds the Swim Challenge to be “all pluses”.
“We get the joy of swimming, and the other side of it is we’re fundraising for a great cause,” she said.
“Starlight Foundation and helping kids is a great cause, and I love being able to do something for such a good thing and spend time with my teenage son.
“I’d encourage everyone to do it.”
Last year they raised at total of $1540 for the charity and have raised $280.
Ms Burleigh said sponsorship had been slow this year but they are still hoping to beat last year’s total.
“We would certainly love to; well, that’s what we’re trying to do,” she said.
Jake said the duo would love to continue participating in the challenge into the future, and is calling for everyone to donate.
“Please jump on board and support us,” he said.
“You can use your phone and scan the QR code that’s on all the posters around Lismore and you can donate that way.
“There’s also a link that you can jump on, or you can come down to the local pool here in Lismore and place your donation in the tin or visit superswim.org.au/jake-burleigh, or scan the QR Code present on the posters around Lismore and in school newsletters.
