Enjoy breakfast for a cause
ENJOYING a delicious breakfast while helping to raise money for students seems almost too good to be true – but the good remains true this month with the return of a beloved school fundraiser.

St Thomas’ Primary School will host one of its major annual fundraisers, the 2026 Community Big Breakfast, this month from 6.30am on Tuesday, February 17.
The occasion brings together the Shrove Tuesday celebration in addition to providing the school an opportunity to open its doors to the wider community.
Pancakes, bacon and egg rolls, toast and fresh fruit will all be available in addition to coffee, tea and fruit juices.
Families can enjoy a breakfast together for $35 or adults for $15, secondary students $10 or primary and pre-school students $5.
All funds raised from the Community Big Breakfast are donated directly back into the school.
Parents and Friends Association president Ann Edge said the event was also an exciting social occasion to help connect everyone.
“We do a big breakfast for our community and our school community,” she said.
“Kids can come in and enjoy a breakfast with their families – which we do on Shrove Tuesday, leading up to Ash Wednesday, as an important religious date.
“We’ve got a lot of new preps this year so it’s a great chance for their families to come in and see how our school can work together really well.
“But it’s just a great thing for our community – we open quite early in the morning so the tradies can swing by and get breakfast on the way to work so they can fuel up and do their job for the rest of the day.”
The fundraiser has supported a range of upgrades in recent years, headlined by the addition of the new soft-court in the schools’ undercover area which has transformed a dilapidated concrete patch into one of the most beloved areas in the school.
The Parents and Friends Association has already looked ahead to new possibilities, with the guidance of the students themselves.
“Over the years we’ve done a lot of fundraising, and we’ve had things such as flooring done in the undercover area for the kids to play, we’re looking at doing some bigger fundraising for outdoor equipment for things such as basketball hoops and we got some new mud kitchens for the younger students last year,” Mrs Edge said.
“The kids also get the chance to be involved, to think about what they would like to see funds raised for, but for us it’s about looking at the bigger picture.”
