Exhibition debut for C’down couple
A HUSBAND and wife photography duo are making their exhibition debut at this month’s Camperdown Courthouse exhibition.
Greg and Heidi Wane’s photography works will be displayed throughout July, featuring various landscape, floral, fauna and item-based works.
Mr Wane said photography has been developing in art circles in recent years, and he is excited to share his interest in plants and animals.
“More and more art shows are using photography now as a medium, so that’s exciting for us too,” he said.
“I enjoy the challenge of capturing tiny details in flower petals, the colours, the shapes and textures.
“Animals are a different type of challenge; they can be unpredictable, requiring lots of patience to get the shot.
“More so with birds – these creatures rely on their speed and wariness to survive, so again waiting patiently near where birds are feeding and knowing their behavior is half the skill in getting a good shot, but there is a certain amount of luck to get a great shot.”
Mr Wane’s works make use of various lenses on a traditional digital camera, using some techniques he picked up whilst part of a camera club in Geelong.
Mrs Wane, on the other hand, primarily uses the camera on her iPhone, with occasional use of a compact camera.
She said she is a self-taught hobby photographer and has no set theme she focuses on.
“I take heaps of photos when I spot an interesting subject and I work it until I get a picture I am happy with,” she said.
“It’s wonderful living in the digital age, where we don’t have to worry about film, and I can delete any pictures that didn’t work.
“I am drawn to building facades, cars, shop windows, musicians, mushrooms, trees and anything quirky.
“We’ve been photographing as a hobby for years, but now that photography is more in the forefront of art, we’ve decided we should exhibit our stuff as well and see what people think.”
Mrs Wane said they were both nervous about the exhibition, since it is the first time they have put their work on display on its own, and hopes people like what they have done.
“I am new to exhibiting my work at art shows, so I was in total shock, but absolutely thrilled when I won the Best Photograph in Show at the highly respected Mortlake Art Show held in June,” she said.
“You’ve got your talented painters and sketchers, and this is just another form of art that we’re into.”
The exhibition will run all month at the Courthouse at 179 Manifold Street, Camperdown.
