Extra funding for maintenance

A NUMBER of Terang College facilities would soon receive a spruce-up thanks to a $350,117 State Government commitment.
Acting principal Michael Castersen said it was “terrific” to learn the school will benefit from an extra $200,000 on top of about $150,000 already allocated through normal funding streams.
“It is a significant increase,” he said.
Mr Castersen said the upgrades as part of the school’s overarching master plan would include maintenance to the senior campus hall and the weatherboard technology wing.
“We haven’t run away from our significant maintenance issues,” he said.
“We are so rapt these works will commence immediately.”
The works complement upgrades to the front façade completed recently, as more maintenance and revamp works could now take place within the internal grounds of the senior campus.
Noorat Primary School would also receive $35,008 as part of the funding commitment.
State Minister for Education James Merlino said more than 1500 state schools benefitted from the investment.
“Sometimes it’s the little things that can have a really big impact,” he said.
“From fixing leaky taps to a new lick of paint, this investment will help every child, in every state school, right across Victoria.
“We are building 100 new schools, but we’re also looking after existing buildings we have.”
The investment would see more than double the funding for maintenance committed to Victoria’s state schools over the next two financial years, with more than $300 million to be invested in 2019/20 and $290 million in 2020/21.
