Family fishing day set to return
THE Camperdown, Lake Purrumbete and Cobden Angling Clubs are joining together to encourage residents of all ages to cast a line next weekend for a family fishing day.
The free event will be held on Sunday (November 9) from 10am-2pm at Lake Bullen Merri’s south beach.
Lake Purrumbete Angling Club president Craig Mitchell said this year’s event would follow on from the success of last year’s fishing day, which saw 87 people cast a line at the lake.
“There will be casting lessons, and anyone who wants to come along is welcome,” he said.
“Hopefully the weather will be good.
“Our fishing day is to not only promote our local angling clubs, but our great crater lakes and also encourage young people to enjoy a great outdoors recreation.”
Budding fishers can cast a line from the bank of the lake, with prizes for the heaviest brown trout, rainbow trout, tiger trout, chinook salmon and bass caught on the day.
There will be some equipment on loan from the angling clubs for novice fishers, and over 18s must have their fishing licence.
Registrations will be open on the day at the Camperdown Angling Club Clubrooms, with a free barbecue and soft drinks available.
