Film Festival returns next week

MOVIE fans are in for a treat as the Corangamite Film Festival screens next week.

Corangamite Film Society committee member Simon Buccheri said the society was excited to be screening films across the shire, bringing film to people who normally wouldn’t have access to it.

The Corangamite Film Festival will be screening in Camperdown, Lismore, Skipton and Cobden.

It will feature classics such as Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘North by Northwest’ as well as more recent films such as ‘Conclave’.

It will also feature blockbuster films including ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and Wes Anderson’s ‘Moonrise Kingdom’.

Mr Buccheri said there will be something for everyone of all film tastes.

“We’re lucky enough to also have the St Kilda Film Festival screening at the Killara Centre in Camperdown on Saturday, August 9 as part of the festival,” he said.

“The St Kilda Film Festival features a selection of the best short films from around Australia, and I’m excited that they’ll be screened right here in Camperdown.

“The St Kilda Film Festival is Australia’s largest and oldest short film festival.”

Festival director Richard Sowada said the St Kilda Film Festival was excited to bring a selection of Australia’s top short films from the 2025 program to the residents of Camperdown.

The St Kilda Film Festival supports the Australian film industry by turning the spotlight on award-winning films which might not otherwise receive public attention.

Mr Buccheri said the screening would take place at the Killara Centre at 7.30pm and would feature the award winners and the directors choice.

As films featured in the St Kilda Film Festival are unclassified, persons under the age of 15 years will not be admitted to screenings unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The Corangamite Film Festival is a joint effort between the Corangamite Film Society and Corangamite Shire Council and built on the partnership’s successful Community Cinema Program which toured the shire over summer.

“To make it accessible we have set reasonable ticket prices from $5-$15 for screenings with most screenings including a supper,” Mr Buccheri said.

“We really hope the local communities where we are screening will support such a wonderful event.

“Tickets will be sold at the door or the Cobden screening can

be pre-purchased at trybooking.com.

“We think the festival will allow people to see what a wonderful medium film is.”
