Film reels primed for C’mite Film Festival
THE Corangamite Film Society are setting up their projectors for its annual Corangamite Film Festival, with six movies on offer for residents.
The films will be hosted in Camperdown, Lismore, Terang, Skipton and Cobden from next Tuesday (July 30) to Sunday, August 4.
Corangamite Film Society president Chris Warren said film groups from across the shire combined efforts to create the six-day event, allowing a diverse range of film styles and subjects for the festival.
“Film groups are challenged with choosing a film that their local group wishes to see, but will also have a broader audience appeal,” he said.
“It provides a great opportunity for smaller film groups to promote awareness of their regular film events, and to also raise money through ticket sales at the festival.
“Each venue and community of volunteers have their own character and style.
“Combined with supper and a chance to socialise and talk about the film afterwards, it’s a great get-together.”
The festival kicks off with ‘Something in the Water’ at the Commercial Hotel in Terang, with doors open at 7pm – entry for this film is by donation and includes super.
On Wednesday, July 31, the Lismore Health Centre’s Grimwade Room will be screening ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ from 7pm.
Entry is $5 per person and includes supper.
The Theatre Royal in Camperdown will be hosting two screenings during the festival, with the film set to start at 7.30pm for both sessions. The first session will be ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, with entry at $10 per person and including supper on the night.
The second session is the ‘St Kilda Film Festival’, a regular feature at the Corangamite Film Festival – entry is $15 per person, and includes supper.
Cobden’s Alderwood Manor will be screening ‘Jurassic Park’ on Friday, August 2, with tickets $15 per person.
The final film, ‘The Italian Job’, will be screened at the Mechanics Insitite Hall in skipton on Sunday, August 4, with tickets $10 per person and free for children under 12.
Mr Warren said the film festival had something for everyone.
“This year includes a locally inspired film about two Terang personalities, two vintage film classics, a recent black comedy, a Steven Spielberg blockbuster, and the unrivalled St Kilda Film Festival Short Film Victorian Tour,” he said.
“We’re all set for a captivating film-going experience.”
